Draws attention to the fact that outside of Vasari and Condivi, there is no evidence of Michelangelo's direct association with Lorenzo the Magnificent; and argues that acceptance of the mythologized version of the artist's youth allows art historians to avoid confronting their ignorance of his formation as a sculptor.
