Chinoiserie architecture and furnishings of the structure designed by Louis Le Vau and built in the gardens at Versailles in 1670 by Louis XIV for his mistress, Madame de Montespan. It was demolished in 1687, and the author relies especially on the evidence of an anonymous French gouache of an interior thought to be the Trianon de Porcelaine (ca.1670, London, Victoria and Albert Museum).
