Abstract (en)

Observes that Leonardo was famous as a physiognomist in the 16th and 17th cs.; and examines evidence from his notes that reveal his conception of a didactic discussion of the bodily expression of emotions, as well as his plan to discuss systematically the variety of facial and bodily expressions due to emotions. (Appendix with list of texts on "moti mentali" in the Codex Urbinas, with sources and proposed dates).
