Abstract
(en)
Evaluates a statistical study of individual artists selected as art historical subjects, based on the lists of artists' names in the Répertoire d'art et d'archéologie for the years 1957-1987. Concludes that a fairly consistent group of famous artists are treated in depth year after year. (Some variations occurred because of fluctuations reflecting commemorative year publications.) Also argues that the number of core artists so treated is gradually shrinking (i.e., more publications on fewer artists). Notes that by far Picasso remains the most published artist.
