Investigates some of the early prints by the German artist, suggesting that the letter S in his monogram was punched rather than engraved in the earliest 10 prints. Based on a close study of the technique and style of two prints, S. James at the Battle of Clavijo and a small S. Sebastian, argues that these works should be attributed to a follower of Schongauer.
