Chantrey's ledger provides detailed information concerning the sculptor's business practices and dealings with patrons. The purpose of the present project has been to provide a full and accurate transcription of Chantrey's ledger (1809-1841) at the Royal Academy (London), incorporating significant material from the ledger (1809-1823) held at the British Library, relating as many entries as possible with known, surviving works. The apparatus of notes sets out all the information accumulated to date about the patrons, sitters and sculptures mentioned in the ledger. Although presented here as an edition of the ledger, the commentaries contain material that in effect constitutes a comprehensive catalogue of Chantrey's surviving works, though not an exhaustive catalogue raisonné.
