Abstract (en)
The King's purchases of books, drawings, and paintings were mainly from Italy, with a few acquisitions in Germany, the Netherlands, and France. Lord Bute and Richard Dalton played a crucial role in these purchases, especially the collections of Joseph Smith and Cardinal Alessandro Albani were major acquisitions. The King achieved a first-rate library and cabinet of coins, medals, engraved gems, drawings, prints, and paintings.
