Abstract
(en)
Criticizes the tendency of scholars to study these three terms as indicators or partakers of some larger theoretical framework rather than in their proper context, the total verbal framework of Castiglione's Book of the courtier. Cites, for example, the attempt to place Castiglione's "theory of grace" in the context of the development of "classical art theory". Examines the meanings of these three terms while adhering as much as possible to Castiglione's text.
