Discusses the Surrealists' critique of French psychiatric authority on mental illness, particularly with regard to paranoid psychosis, from 1928 to 1933. Considers the writings of André Breton and Jacques Lacan. Discusses the writings and paintings of Salvador Dalí, as well as Chien Andalou (1928), a film on which he collaborated with Luis Buñuel.
