Examines the mirror as a site of reflection and as an image of identity and self-knowledge. Describes the complexities of mirror images in various myths and legends, and in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass (1871). Also analyzes Salvador Dalí's readings of Freudian and Lacanian theories of the mirror stage, and discusses the significance of mirrors and the mirror stage for what he called paranoid-critical method of making art.
