Abstract (en)
Compares the contemporaneous cycles based on Dante's Divine Comedy created by Salvador Dalí (1960) and Robert Rauschenberg (1964). Discusses the relation of each artist's prints to Sandro Botticelli's illustrations of Dante's work (ca.1480), and highlights the differences in Rauschenberg's and Dalí's illustrative techniques and in their selection of motifs to illustrate.
