Discusses Salvador Dalí's work in relation to kitsch. Outlines a definition of kitsch, and argues that Dalí's use of irony works to undermine the kitsch-like qualities in his art. Also examines the differences between European and American understandings of kitsch, and demonstrates that these differing conceptions have shaped the reception of Dalí's work in both contexts.
