Abstract
(en)
Examines Lotto's contribution to the mainstream of altarpiece design and production in the context of the role of the patron and the requirements of the original sites. While differences in function and imagery were determined by the patrons, the altarpiece was also a public image, commissioned with the interests of more than one constituency in mind. Includes a critical catalogue of Lotto's altarpieces.
