Abstract
(en)
Catalogue raisonné of 309 works of sculpture (34 of them of doubtful authenticity) in 15 New England collections, excluding only the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. The limits of the Gothic style are defined as determined by its origins in France around the mid-12th c., and its termination in the new stylistic developments in Italy in the 15th c., allowing for manifestations as late as 1530 or even later in Northern Europe, particularly Germany. Preceded by a chapter on the materials of Gothic sculpture.
