Exhibition conceived by the arts/environmental group Common Ground in the wake of damages caused by storms in October 1987. 28 works by contemporary British artists, mostly made especially for the exhibition, illustrating the theme of trees. Accompanied by three essays: Signs of the fifth element, by Marina Warner; The life of trees, by Oliver Rackham; The tree in world mythologies, by Helen Luckett, Nima Smith, and PLR Smith.
