Discusses documents for a program of mural paintings (now lost) in the Castello Visconteo, Pavia, designed by Galeazzo Maria Sforza and executed by Bonifacio Bembo. Suggests that mural paintings such as Andrea Mantegna's Camera degli Sposi, 1472, were not as unusual as they now appear. Includes two appendixes with floorplans, contracts and letters.
