Analysis of Lüpertz's series of paintings, German Motifs, 1970-1974, which feature depictions of steel helmets, officers' caps, uniforms, spades and other symbols associated with the Third Reich. Considers the political circumstances and ideological implications of these paintings which comment on the interconnectedness of modern Germany and Nazi Germany.
