Argues that the emotional experience of a work of art is as valid as a formal analysis in understanding it. Uses Eriksson's sculpture, 1973 (in the park of Kungsträdgården, Stockholm) as an example, comparing it with earlier works on similar themes by Giotto, Rembrandt, Munch, Rodin and others.
