Examines sources for the imaginary arms of the Seven Kings of Rome in the Wappenbuch of Konrad Grünenberg, 1483 (Deutsches Zentralarchiv, Merseburg), especially 5th or 6th c. Byzantine signet rings with the inscription "bratila" (silver example in the Metropolitan Museum, New York; and gold ring in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London), as well as the Capitoline Romulus and Remus Nursed by the She-Wolf (Sale dei Conservatori, Rome).
