Abstract (en)

Publication of scholarly commentated editions of Ovid's Metamorphoses together with editions intended for a relatively broader public, has tended to support the picture of two separate traditions in the reception of Ovid and that of classical culture in general in the 16th c. Illustrations to these editions, however, show that the division between an élite culture and a popular culture was not so sharp.
