Abstract (en)
Attributes Vasari's reappraisal of Raphael and Michelangelo--elevating the former to the plane of the latter--in the second edition of his Lives (1568) to the fact that Vasari had by then attained the status he desired and, no longer needing to hitch his wagon to the star of Michelangelo, was at leisure to express himself freely. Discusses affinities between Vasari and Raphael both as men and as artists.
