An iconographical discussion of the right wing of the 14th c. Mary altarpiece painted for S. Petri-Kirche in Buxtehude (now in the Hamburger Kunsthalle) depicting the Christ child sitting in front of the Virgin Mary, traditionally known as the Visit of the Angels. Argues that the dominant theme is the Presentation of the Instruments of Passion, of which the theme of the Madonna Knitting the Seamless Garment of Christ is only one part.
