In a survey of architecture since 1945 the author discusses the impact of Hans Hollein and Walter Pichler, as expressed in their exhibition catalogue Hollein-Pichler-Architektur (Vienna, 1963). Comparisons are made with works by other European as well as American architects and with painting and sculpture. The essay is an expansion of "Hans Hollein--Architekturdesign" by Michael Brix (Idea 1984, 3, p. 168-196).
