Abstract
(en)
Examines the implications of the discovery, during restorations, of three dates (1598, 1599, and 1600) and the identification of the 227 giornate of the frescoes of the Loves of the Gods by Annibale and Agostino Carracci on the vault of the Galleria of Palazzo Farnese, Rome. Concludes that Agostino was active only briefly, in 1599, and that thereafter Annibale had an assistant to help with the completion of the frescoes. Also supports Charles Dempsey's interpretation of a shift in the iconography of the Galleria between the vault and the walls. (Includes a map of the giornate.)
