Abstract (en)

Defines the "Romantic Interior" as one created using a range of objects dating from an earlier period. For the purposes of this book, "Romantic Interiors" refers to those devised by British collectors ca.1750-1850 using objects made prior to 1700--mainly Medieval and Renaissance. Focuses on five houses: Strawberry Hill (1747-1796); Fonthill Abbey (1796-1822); Abbotsford (1816-1826); Charlecote Park (1828-1857); and Goodrich Court (1829-1835).
