Presents examples 4th-14th cs. of the use of the tetragram--defined here as an emblem drawn with a single line to form four loops which point in the four diagonal directions. Notes especially the classical compass tetragram with an added concentric circle intersecting the semicircles in such a way that the voids within take on the shape of a cross.
