Discusses recreations of colonial life--especially period rooms, balls, pageants, and parades--in patriotic observances held during the period between the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and the bicentennial of Washington's birth. Notes that women were the chief promoters, and that domestic paraphernalia dominated.
