Abstract
(en)
Concentrates on Alciato and the conditions that made possible the emergence of the genre. Argues that both the form (i.e. the relation of the text to the visual representation) and themes (i.e. the emphases on ethical concerns) of the emblem corresponded functionally to the changed conditions of life in contemporary reality.
