Abstract
(en)
Argues that a process of steady and progressive revision characterizes the history of the illustrative matter in the editions of the Emblemata during the 16th c., until the pictura is brought into line with details specified in the author's text. Once this "correct" form is found, it will be usually followed by subsequent authors and artists in later editions. Concludes that what we have is not a decline in iconographic exactitude, but a constant striving towards it.
