Italian arms and armor, 16th-17th cs., chiefly from the Tuscan court, exhibited with portraits of men in armor, battle paintings, and other paintings of chivalric subjects, grouped under three themes: 16th c. epic poetry glorifying the heroic cavalier or soldier, military religious orders and the struggle against Turkish expansionism, and the international taste in arms in early modern Europe.
