Abstract (en)
Uses the writings of Richard Krautheimer, Günter Bandmann, Hans Sedlmayr and Erwin Panofsky as test-cases for a reappraisal of the discipline of iconography in the mid-20th c., and for suggesting how iconographic methods might rescue the present day study of Medieval architecture from its formal and archaeological preoccupations.
