Discusses the iconography of Bouts's painting which was acquired by the Malibu museum in 1985. Offers a reconstruction of a ca.1450-1455 Crucifixion altarpiece (central painting in the Musées des Beaux-Arts de Belgique, Brussels) for which the Getty picture formed the upper half of the left wing.
