Argues that a purely stylistic approach to the Munsterkerk Onze Lieve Vrouw, Roermond (ca.1215-1250), is anachronistic. More important for the patrons were the references to previous buildings, namely the chevet of Speyer cathedral, and the church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
