Argues that Gossaert was the artistic leader of the refurnishing of the Koorkerk of the abbey at Middelburg after the fire of 1492 (ca.1505-1520). Discusses his lost retable for the main altar. Identifies an embroidered antependium in the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Brussels, as that of the main altar in Middelburg, and argues that it was designed by Gossaert ca.1518, and probably executed by a Southern Netherlandish workshop. Also discusses the sepulchral monument of William of Holland and his wife (1542-1546).
