Abstract (en)
Demonstrates that 14 of Passarotti's 20 etchings are based on designs by other artists, and argues that other artists probably designed the remainder--excepting only his anatomical prints. Concludes that the use of etching as a reproductive medium was apparently initiated in Bologna by Parmigianino in the late 1520s, and that the practice was continued by Passarotti and others in the 1540s and 1550s.
