Surveys the struggle of English reproductive engravers for full academic recognition, assessing the various efforts of the protagonists within the framework of the cultural politics of the period. Focuses especially on the campaigns of John Landseer, and on the 1802-1804 exhibition of the British School in Berners Street, London.
