On the adaptation of a German mid-12th c. gilt-bronze aquamanile in the form of a wyvern (Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum) as a glazed white porcelain chocolate pot made at the Vienna State Factory 1744-1749 (London, Victoria and Albert Museum). The latter then served as the model for a parcel-gilt claret jug made by London silversmith George Fox in 1877 (London, Victoria and Albert Museum).
