Abstract (en)
Proposes that the tower and the urban scene with citizens in the background of a scene from the Life of S. Martin by Simone Martini (lower church, S. Francesco, Assisi) are allusions to an early stage in the building of the Palazzo Pubblico of Siena and to associations between Siena and S. Martin of Tours. Deduces that the patron of the chapel of S. Martin was Cardinal Gentile Partino da Montefiore, that he planned its iconography with Simone while in Siena in 1312; and that the cycle was executed 1312-1319.
