Abstract (en)

Discusses a group of stone and alabaster relief sculptures by Georg Schweigger (1613-1690) or by artists working in his style (17th or 19th c.), depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin. Some of the reliefs are attributed to Richard Cockle Lucas (1800-1883). Although one of the reliefs is closely based on Goltzius's engraving Circumcision of Christ, the compositions of all are thought to depend ultimately on Dürer's Life of the Virgin woodcut series.
