On the influence of democracy and freedom on 19th c. architecture, nourished by archaeological finds in Athens. Discusses the participation of Northern architects, Germans and Danes, in developing a new style at home and abroad, i.e. the brothers Christian and Theophilus Hansen's activities in Athens.
