Abstract (en)

Presents and draws conclusions from technical evidence concerning paintings by Raphael in the Pinacoteca Vaticana, Rome: the Transfiguration and the Coronation of the Virgin executed for the Clarisse of Monteluco. Results show that the Transfiguration is entirely by Raphael's hand; that the two panels comprising the Monteluco altarpiece have different origins, and that the lower panel originally included an architectural setting. Proposes that the upper panel was executed for a different altarpiece than the lower, and that it was completed by Giulio Romano or Penni.
