Examines the development of the monte sacro form, 15th-18th cs., focusing on four examples: Varallo, Granada, Bom Jesus of Braga, and Bom-Jesus de Matozinhos at Congonhas (sculptures by Aleijadinho); seeks to illuminate the variety of interpretations each gives to the underlying theme of the via sacra and Calvary at Jerusalem.
