On extravagant patronage of the arts as a cover for clandestine pro-Jacobite political activities in Britain from the birth of the Old Pretender to the Rebellion of 1745. Focuses especially on the activities of Richard Boyle, Third Earl of Burlington, whose Stuart cipher name was "Mr. Buck."
