Examines Ligorio's use of numismatic evidence to further his topographical and archaeological researches; focuses on his drawings of Roman coins, concluding that some of the untraceable coins are inventions; and discusses his use of coins as the basis for reconstructions of temples in his plans of ancient Rome, 1553 and 1561.
