Notes that drawings and watercolors have been preserved in books and in frames; argues that while the latter method is altogether undesirable, books of drawings can be important for the history of collecting. Cites examples of such collections in Italy, 16th-18th cs., and discusses problems and methods of conservation with respect to the album of drawings from the collection of Sebastiano Resta in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milan.
