Notes the tendency of 20th c. restorers to remove restorations and additions made to works of art and architecture in Italy in the 19th c. Argues that these should be allowed to remain except when they cause obvious structural damage to the original. (Examples discussed are mainly paintings, 13th-17th cs.)
