Notes that even if cataloguing and inventorying are carried out in awareness of the need to identify relationships among works of archaeology and art, often only the historical and aesthetic features of the works themselves are taken into consideration, while technical aspects and conservation issues are ignored. Argues that the separation between art historical and scientific knowledge is detrimental to systematic conservation.
