Abstract (en)

Considers a beaker-shaped silver cup with floral decoration which bears the hallmark of Newcastle silversmith James Kirkup (purchased by the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, in 1987). Suggests it is one of two known to have been made as presentation prizes for the Society of Florists and Lovers of Gardening at Newcastle upon Tyne, and dates it ca.1747-1753.
