Abstract
(en)
Studies the transmission of the Palladian style through Inigo Jones and English Neo-Palladianism to the United States. Notes the role of cheap pattern books in the spread of Palladianism in the British colonies, and focuses on country houses in Virginia, where social and economic circumstances favored adoption of the Palladian villa type. Examples considered are Westover, Mount Airy, Mount Vernon, and works of Thomas Jefferson.
