Makes deductions concerning Merovingian social structure, military customs, land tenure and grants, church ownership, and grave robbing on the basis of evidence of grave goods associated with the Reihengräber burial practice. Also considers settlement patterns and place names. Archaeological evidence discussed includes swords (especially ringswords), helmets, cemeteries, and churches with graves.
